About Us
We’re the Bronkies
Gust Busters and we’re proud to fly
the flag (or sail as it so happens…)
for windsurfing in Gauteng. We consider ourselves
to be a fortunate group, having experienced
the joy of planing (when the board skips across
the water at a speed faster than the wind).
We may be judged by some to be a tad arrogant,
but then why not – we go as fast as
motor boats but without those smelly engines.
We’re actually just a bunch of regular
blokes who enjoy a common sense of purpose
and the freedom which windsurfing brings.
Although our sailing conditions are not the
best (when compared to Cape Town), we still
enjoy the odd windy day which Mother Nature
throws our way.
We are few and far between
because interest in our noble sport has apparently
waned due to many reasons, none of which are
actually acceptable. The truth is that the
majority of folks out there don’t know
what they’re missing – they’d
rather do the couch potato thing and watch
rugby/cricket/soccer on TV. We don’t
knock those sports, but wouldn’t it
be much more fun to actually become involved
in a sport of one’s own ? Windsurfing
is not difficult and you don’t have
to be built like a small gorilla to handle
a sail. And it’s clean. |

Contrary
to the perception that this is a dying sport,
we’ve recently welcomed to the hallowed
shores of Bronkies several new faces over
the past years. It’s always a delight
to see the elated smile of a newbie after
he’s cracked his first run in the
foot straps. Our purpose is therefore not
to keep to ourselves the enjoyment windsurfing
brings. Our purpose is to try to inspire
others into experiencing something very
few people ever will. It’s called
windsurfing. It’s called release !
Come join us at Bronkies. Guaranteed you’ll
have fun !
For
those of you who may be interested in but
have never tried windsurfing, give any of
us a call – we have a myriad of board
and sail types and sizes and would be only
too happy to help out. For those of you
who can windsurf, why the heck don’t
you join us ?
