Directions to Grootdraai Dam (just outside the metropolis of Standerton) :

About 200 kms from Pretoria, 150 from Joeys - take N3 south, then just after Heidelberg take R23 turn-off to Balfour/Standerton.

Once in the metropolis of Standerton, take the R39 to Ermelo. About 10km out of town, you'll find the entrance to the dam on the right. See map attached.

Grootdraai gets 5 to 10 knots more than Bronks when a cold front induced westerly is forecast. Place is a bit barren and you won't find any casual Saturday afternoon sailors there - best to prearrange with a couple of other sailors and go in a group for company.

There are a number of launch spots but avoid the fishermen at all costs unless you're spoiling for a fight. Don't count on any facilities - it's rough out there.
