9 October 2010
Seems there's been a bit of
action at Dronks recently.
Weekend of 3 September saw a
couple of sailors heading out to the dam to sort
out their frustrations. Not much wind though.
Julian unfurled his new 12 sq.m sail. Apparently
he got a couple of offers from the Hobie boys.
The weekend of 9 October looked
promising with Guru predicting 20 knots for Sunday.
I went out on Saturday and had a lonely sail until
Donovan and Chris pitched. Around 2PM the wind
kicked in at a nice consistent 15 to 20
knots from the NW. Long runs across the dam. Sunday
saw the wind starting earlier and by the time
I go to the dam at around 11AM, the water front
looked like the annual convention of sailors-R-us.
All in all, a good turn out - we had a record
turnout (as far as the past 10 years go) : Julian,
Gabi, Breda, Donovan, Sean, Carlo, Kyle, Godfrey,
Gary, Schalk, Lourens, Peter (Snitch), Peter (Susan),
Glyn, Johan, Len (our latest new Bronks addition
- welcome boet !), the two new ladies, one other
guy I didn't meet and me - that makes 20! But
where were some of our regulars such as Pieter,
Jeremy, Andy, Chris and our pusher, Gunter ? Anyway,
it turned out to be an epic day by Bronks standards.
20 knots plus after 2PM. Lovely !
Stand out performances of the day then :
Sean, Donovan and Gary for maximizing water time
to the greatest extent Johan P for getting to
grips with his 100 liter F2 Ride - definitely
the
most improved sailor since this time last year
(see what a soul sail trip does for one !) Gabi
- by pulling off his first big air (although involuntarily)
close enough for the rest of us to see. Alas,
this event was followed by a long swim and the
walk of shame. Johan P (again) for providing 9
liters of home-brew. A legend in the making !
Some other notable observations
:
What is it with Glyn - he always tries out his
new 100 liter board in the lulls ? The water just
in front of the launch area will henceforth be
dubbed the catapult-zone. Many splendid displays
of uncontrolled flight right in front of us. Great
! How does one measure a 60 minute period (apart
from using a clock) ? Just sit back, relax and
watch Gabi fiddle and "tune" his rig.
By the way, what are those things hanging out
the rear of his harness - lillets go sailing boys......
Finally, congratulations to Donovan
for his performance (and representing the puddle
sailors) at the PE event in September.
Till next time then.....

Knyp Boetie, Knyp

Raar maar waar.
According to Malcolm he attacked Jules
in retaliation to their initial offensive on him
and landed skew. Ag ja nee.

That catapult really shook me up.
