Weekend of 22 August 2010.

So, the third weekend in a row where there was enough wind to sail and regain a little bit of sanity. For Sunday 22 August, Guru predicted 15 knots NW at around 2PM. And yet again, several cars converged on the dam with a bunch of expectant sailors onboard. Arrived at around 12h00 with the wind around 15 knots.

Sean out on a 7 sq.m and planing. As the rest of us rig, the wind drops to a paltry 5 knots ! Guru prediction has also dropped to 13 knots for the afternoon. The met office at OR Tambo says 15 knots. What is going on ? And so we all rig big kit and go plodding around the dam in a rather frustrated manner. But suddenly, at around 2PM, it kicks in again at 15 knots. We have long runs across the dam, characteristic of a classic NW day at Bronks. I downsize to a 7sq.m and 115 liter board and am amazed to have many well powered up runs.

Donovan, who weighs about 20 kg less than I do, is on a bigger board and sail and flies across the dam. Andy doesn't bother to rig down and blasts all over the place on his 144 and 9 sq.m in the big gusts. The crew for the day - Donovan, Andy, Lourens, Glyn, Schalk, Sean and me. A bunch of "sailors" didn't bother to answer their phones - Julian, Gabi, Breda, Johan etc.

Guess they were either fishing or on DWs ! No pics as Glyn forgot his camera battery at home !!
